10 Jun 2002

SAN RAMON, Calif., June 10, 2002 - The HomePlug® Powerline Alliance was honored by PC World with a 2002 World Class Award as the Most Promising Newcomer of the Year. The World Class Award winners were announced in the July 2002 issue of PC World (online now and on newsstands June 11) and will be presented with trophies at the ShowStoppers media reception held during PC Expo in New York.

The HomePlug Powerline Alliance is an industry consortium, which provides a forum for the development of an open specification of home powerline networking products and services. HomePlug certified Ethernet and USB to HomePlug adapters and routers enable high performance whole-house networking utilizing a home's existing electrical wiring. These products provide a simple solution for consumers interested in networking their home without adding any new wires.

“The HomePlug Powerline Alliance is honored to be recognized by PC World as the Most Promising Newcomer in 2002,” said Tom Reed, President of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance. “The interoperability of these products exemplifies a tremendous sense of cooperation, which allows normally competing companies to work together to introduce new technologies and services for the betterment of their customers.”

In November 2001, the HomePlug Powerline Alliance implemented a certification process, which ensures that HomePlug certified products from different member companies interoperate. Multiple member companies demonstrated the interoperability of HomePlug certified products at the International Consumer Electronics Show in January 2002 and at Connections in May 2002.

Celebrating its 20th year, the respected World Class Awards honor the best in computers, hardware, software, and the Internet. To select the best of the best, PC World's editors, testers, and contributors examined the entire spectrum of products that have appeared in the magazine over the past year. Hundreds of products in over 60 categories were judged on performance, value, consistency, and innovation.

“The ultimate buyers guide, the World Class Awards set the standard for excellence in the high-tech industry,” stated Kevin McKean, editorial director of PC World. “From printers to personal finance software, corporate PCs to search engines, the editors reward the finest products and most outstanding performers in this annual award program. Congratulations to the HomePlug Powerline Alliance.”
